How unlocks work

Every coin you collect during a run adds to a permanent coin bank, regardless of how the run ends. That bank is spent — automatically or through the Boards screen from the start menu — to unlock new surfboards for your surfer. A short run that ends early still contributes toward your next unlock, so there's no reason to hold back on a shaky run.

Opening the board rack

From the start screen, the Boards button opens the board rack, showing every board along with which ones are already unlocked and what's needed to open the next one. It's worth checking before a session so you know roughly how many coins stand between you and your next board.

Do boards change gameplay?

Boards are primarily a progression and personalization reward — a visual marker of how much you've played and banked. Chasing them gives newer players a concrete short-term goal that doesn't depend on setting a new high score every session, which pairs well with the daily target system in our daily challenges guide.

Fastest ways to bank coins

  • Use the coin magnet power-up covered in our power-ups guide to sweep coins in adjacent lanes.
  • Keep a combo running — see the combo and scoring guide — since a higher multiplier means every coin banks for more.
  • Play consistently rather than in single long sessions; short daily runs add up the same as one long one, and keep your streak alive at the same time.

Boards and achievements

Some entries in the achievements guide are tied directly to unlocking specific boards or reaching full board rack completion, so working through the board rack naturally clears a chunk of the achievement list at the same time.
